In celebration of Black History Month, today we honor Hughie Lee Smith. He was a prominent artist of surrealism in the late 20th century and one of America’s famous black artists. Mr. Smith wanted to capture decaying urban life in his paintings such as The Piper and Discussion on a Rooftop. He believed that art should reflect events such as depression and segregation. Other famous black artists include Kara Walker, Harriet Powers, and Walter Williams. Please join the Leadership Council by The Cookie Site during both lunch shifts today to make your mark on the sidewalk.

Last year the Walker Wildcat basketball team went to Scotlandville and upset the #2 ranked team in the state. This year, Scotlandville is ranked #1 in the state, and they will be playing at Walker tonight in the Glenn Ellis Gym.
