Applications for all students interested in being a WHS Ambassador next school year are due tomorrow.
All males interested in playing basketball next year should come to the office and pick up a permission form for tryouts, which will be held May 17 & 18. On the first day of tryouts, you must bring with you a completed permission form, a completed physical exam form, and a copy of your birth certificate. See Coach Schiro if you have questions.
All girls interested in playing on the Lady Cat basketball team next year need to pick up a permission slip in the office. Tryouts will be on Thursday, May 17 from 3:00 – 4:30. See Coach Schwartz if you have any questions.

Prom pictures are in and can be picked up in the library during lunch. Students must show their current Walker High ID to get pictures.

Congratulations to our Band of Legacy on their outstanding performance at state festival yesterday. They earned the highest honors that are awarded. This has happened only two other times in the history of Walker High—in 1972 and in 2002 and now in 2012. Way to go, band. The legacy grows.
Everyone is invited to the Walker Freshman and Walker High School choir concert tonight at 7:00 in the Walker Freshman School auditorium. Admission is free.

Good luck to the Band of Legacy as they compete in the state music festival today in Lake Charles. All percussion members are dismissed to report to the band room for 2nd Block.

Thanks to your generosity on Jeans Day for March of Dimes, WHS has contributed $638 to that worthy cause.
Congratulations to our boys’ track and field team on their 5th place finish at the 5A regionals yesterday. The following athletes finished in the top 3 and qualified for the state championships: Landon Hazel placed 1st in the 800 meter run; Shaun Lowe, 1st in the 300m hurdles, breaking his own school record; Peyton LeJeune, 3rd in the 100m dash; and Mi’ca Lowe, 2nd in the javelin.

The Louisiana Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (LASFAA) will award at least four $500 scholarships to Louisiana seniors who are planning to attend institutions in the state of Louisiana. All seniors are invited to attend the job fair hosted by Congressman Bill Cassidy on Thursday, May 3 at the Baton Rouge Marriott. Capitol region employers currently hiring in the petrochemical, manufacturing, industry and health care fields will be present. The fair is open until 5:00 P.M.
If you are interested in donating blood on Tuesday, May 1, please come to the office to sign up.

Students who are interested in the summer driver’s education class are reminded that Friday, May 11 is the deadline to pay the $375 for the course. The Louisiana Driver’s Guide that is required for the class will be provided by the school. Students do not have to acquire a copy.

Congratulations to our girls’ and boys’ track and field teams on their performances at the district 4-5A meet held last Thursday. Our girls had a strong showing and placed 2nd overall behind Zachary High. Our boys’ team placed 2nd in a competition that went down to the wire with Zachary scoring 197 points and Walker scoring 181. Mi’Ca Lowe and Jimmy LeBlanc earned Field MVP honors. Kayla Walker and Brady Warren were named Track MVPs.
